When I first started my blog I had it in my mind that I needed to keep it completely separate from Bendel. She has her own fame on her own and I wanted this to be focused on my style and life. I shortly realized this was impossible. Bendel is such a huge part of my life, and I always receive so many questions and comments about her. I decided to start a separate page on my site called “Bendel’s Corner” where I share all things Bendel girl.
To kick off this new part of my site I thought I would do 14 facts about Bendel, one for each dog year she’s been alive:
- She’s a snob. I didn’t think it was possible for a dog to be snobby, but Bendel has proved me wrong. She is very serious a lot of the time. Living with her is like living with a cool roommate who is sometimes kind of mean to you.
- She’s slightly Instagram famous with over 11k followers and sponsorships with Chewy, Petsmart, and other awesome companies.
- She’s a hunting dog. For those of you who are not familiar with the breed, Bendel is a German Shorthaired Pointer. If it moves, she’s on it. She will have staring contests with almost any creature and sneak up on them no matter how long it takes. Her favorite way to torture me is to catch live lizards in her mouth and drop them in my lap.
- She’s a sleeper. Don’t get me wrong she has tons of energy, but when she’s done she is absolutely done. She will put herself to bed no matter what we’re doing. She also always has to sleep under a blanket.
- She loves the water. If there is water Bendel is in it. Puddle, pool, ocean, creek, a random person’s sprinklers…. she’s not picky.
- She’s horrified of children. They make her super nervous, and she wants absolutely nothing to do with them.
- She doesn’t fetch. It’s not that she doesn’t know how, it’s that she doesn’t like it. She would much rather spend her outdoor time exploring and chasing things than bringing a tennis ball back and forth.
- She hates when you cover your face. Not quite sure why, but anytime I cover my face she freaks out, pounces on me, and starts crying. I’ll admit it is fun to mess with her sometimes.
- She’s great in the car. Once were on the highway she will sleep the entire ride and never make a peep!
- She has tons of friends and always runs the show wherever she goes. She’s the cool girl at school I never was.
- She’s fast. Probably the fastest dog at the dog park, or any park for that matter. The only dog that has been able to completely outrun her was our neighbor’s retired racing greyhound.
- She loves to be naked. By naked I mean without a collar, leash, bandana anything. I have a no collar rule in the house, and she holds me to it. If I leave her collar on she’ll follow me around staring at me until I take it off.
- She’s smart. She knows exactly what she wants when she wants it. She’ll bury things in the couch, and if you move them when she’s not looking she’ll go back DAYS later to retrieve it and throw a fit when its not there. If you tell her your going to do something like go on the boat or swim by the pool she will absolutely hold you to it.
- She’s a snuggler and a stage 5 clinger. This is my absolute favorite thing about Bendel. She is not an overly affectionate dog. Its rare to get a lick or to much attention from her, but when she’s tired she insists on snuggling up to you as close as she can possibly get. (I’m typing this one handed as she has put all 50 pounds of her body weight on my other). She’s definitely outgrown lapdog status but I don’t have the heart to tell her.
I hope everyone enjoyed getting to know Bendel! Stay tuned for more pupdates and behind the scenes of living with a famous diva dog.
