We’ve fully embraced spring over on Queen Bee, and what better way than with a personal garden photo series. When my cousin sent me a tiktok about making your own personal garden I immediately was in. If you couldn’t tell, I’m easily convinced in regard to anything regarding a cool photo concept.
The tiktok (linking here so credit to the original creator) had a very summer vibe with bright yellow flowers. I loved this concept, but wanted to put a more muted early spring vibe. I headed to Trader Joes, my local florist now apparently, and was immediately drawn to the purple. I’m not typically a purple girl and the pink would have probably worked better with the current color scheme, but I just kept constantly reaching for the purple.
Once we got the flowers we set off to the site. A local park near my house is my default for creative shoots as there are so many different spots and minimal people to gawk.
Attaching the flowers to the lens turned out t0 be a lot more difficult than anticipated, so if you’re planning to do this definitely bring some heavy duty tape, or a much tighter rubber band. Focusing and framing the shot deemed even more difficult especially for my newer to photography friends. We had so much fun shooting these, but going back and forth to frame the shot and refocus definitely had me working up a sweat.
While in the middle of the first round of photos it decided to DOWN POUR. We ran to the car and the rain stopped after about 5 minutes thankfully. We made the trek back out, but wow that Florida humidity is no joke you guys I felt like I was melting in real time. With that being said, please excuse the rapid decline of my hair, I was blessed with a lot of things but beautiful hair and patience were not two of them.
After the second round of rain, and constant shifting of the sun/light, we decided to call it quits and pray to the photography gods we liked some of the shots.
They ended up coming out SO cute and I couldn’t be happier with our first attempt! The best part was the laughs and fun I had with my cousins. We have a pretty large age gap between the three of us (I’m 26, Sky is 20, and Sie is 14), and as we get older we’re able to do more things together vs me being the sole leader. I love watching them grow up and collaborating together. I had so much fun capturing their different personalities.
Scroll through to see the final product, and as always if you’re here for the outfits I did my best to link below, but most of the items were thrifted!
