Officially crossing a sunflower field photoshoot off of my photography wishlist. I’ve been wanting to do a shoot like this for years, and every year I forget that peak sunflower season is the middle of January in Florida.
I’m happy to say I remembered this year, grabbed one of my best friends and set off to Berry Farms. The location was so cute with fresh u-pick strawberries, sunflowers, soft serve, coffee and food!
We waited for the sun to set (had to get that golden hour glow), and got to work! I had so much fun trying out different poses and angles to capture the beauty of the flowers.
Here are my best tips for shooting in a sunflower field:
- Wear flowy clothing. I wore this adorable free people dress and cardigan letting me make movement with my clothes to add a whimsical feeling to the photos!
- Wear shoes that don’t get dirty easily. I wore these new boots from Sam Edelman, and I am OBSESSED. I had been eyeing these for weeks and finally pulled the trigger.
- Shoot at golden hour. Trust me going to the field in the middle of the day when the sun is at its peak, you are NOT going to love the photos and the light will be super harsh. As the sun went down, the photos got dreamier and dreamier!
- Shoot low. My favorite photos we took from the day were from the ground level! It gives the effect that the sunflowers are taller than they are, and lets you get some cool bokeh effects!
Have fun! I put this on all of my photography tips, but the best way to have great photos is to have fun, and to not be afraid to take a bad photo!!
