Tis the ski-son. January through March is peak ski trip time and I decided to share all of my favorite tips and tricks for the best (recreational) ski trip. Let’s start with an essential packing list:
- Ski Pants ( Snow Proof)
- Ski Jacket (Snow Proof)
- Ski Gloves (Water Proof)
- Warm Socks
- Fleece jacket/under layer
- Neck Warmer
- Warm Hat
- Goggles (Sun Protectant is a plus)
- Leggings or Thermals Chapstick
Waterproof importance:
The first thing you might ask yourself is: “Are ski pants necessary?” The answer is YES. Please do not be the person on the slopes in jeans thinking that they are invincible. You will get cold, wet, and most likely sick. There are so many affordable options out there and if you are just a recreational skier there is no reason to drop more than $60 on a pair of pants.
Pack Light:
You only need one ski jacket and one pair of ski pants. If you think you need a entire second outer layer you. do. not. Pack the pants first as a base layer in your suitcase to take up less room and carry your jacket on the plane to save valuable suitcase Real estate.
Splurge when necessary:
Gloves. This is something I firmly believe you should splurge on. Nothing, I repeat NOTHING ruins a trip like losing feeling in your fingers. I have a pair of Spyder gloves I bough on sale and I cannot praise them enough.
Protect your eyes and skin:
Ski Goggles are a must. I have a pair form Amazon for under $30 that I love. They protect your eyes against the sun and the snow. It can get extremely bright on the slopes and I can guarantee you you won’t be able to keep your sunglasses on.
Neck warmer. So this one is technically not a necessity for most people but it is for me. I absolutely hate cold or dry cracked skin and the neck warmer pulls perfectly up over my nose to cover my face. I recently bought a new one on amazon and It is fantastic quality.
Chapstick. Not much to write about this one other than be smart and pack chapstick….
LAYER:
Layering will save your life. Wear either leggings or thermals under you pants. I personally prefer leggings for when I want to take my ski pants off. On the top I always wear a swiftly long sleeve from Lulu but any long tight exercise type layer will work! I tried to link multiple options and price ranges below. Patagonia is expensive but I truly think worth the price range.
Pack a spare:
I always always pack a spare pair of gloves and an extra hat. If its snowing or you lose a glove on a lift replacing these items on a trip is going to seriously cost you. Here are some of my favorite ski hats!
Honorable mention for my favorite ski hat ever is here: from pink pineapple shop!
