The holiday season is right around is here, which means the constant food, deserts, and parties. I constantly find myself asking: “Can Bendel eat this?”, then immediately googling if it’s safe for dogs. I decided to put together a quick reference guide for what your pup should and shouldn’t eat!
Safe Foods:
- Thanksgiving Turkey Holiday Ham, or Sunday roast – just make sure to avoid the bones as these can splinter in their stomach!
- Green bean casserole – a healthy and sweet treat as long as you scrape off the onions
- sweet potatoes & white potatoes – make sure to cook them first, raw potatoes are difficult to digest.
- pumpkin and squash – free of additives
Foods to Avoid:
- stuffing and corn pudding – these foods are very rich and often contain onions which are toxic to dogs
- desserts and cheeses – these can cause tummy ache’s especially if involving choroclate.
- nuts, grapes, raisins, or any artificially sweetened goods
Remember moderation is important for pups this time of year! Nothing ruins a holiday party like a puppy stomach ache.
Happy Howl-idays!
