And West Virginia officially makes 22 on my list of states. Almost halfway woo hoo!
Living in south Florida my mind is always blown by how easily you can go to other states within the northeast. We were staying in Maryland for this trip but turns out West Virginia is a short trip away! We decided the adorable town of Harpers Ferry was the perfect spot to explore. Everything here shuts down pretty early so my advice is to hit the town a earlier in the day.
We decided to try and hike to the top of the mountain to see the gorgeous view of the town, but we seriously underestimated our “casual” hike. We hiked about an hour on a serious incline (ill prepared) and realized that we still had another hour to the top. It was going to get dark soon, and my target boots were not going to carry me another 2 miles up and 4.5 down so sadly we turned around.
Either way the views were still beautiful and we had the perfectly chilly/sunny day to enjoy the trail and town! Moral of the story? There is no such thing as a casual hike.
Full disclosure: the reason I didn’t take ANY photos of the adorable town is because I lost my license on our hike. We spent the remaining daylight searching for it (we were not successfully). If you’ve heard the phrase looking for a needle in a haystack its very similar to looking for a license in a mountain. A kind soul found it on their hike and contacted me through facebook. The power of social media is amazing.
