I recently had the amazing opportunity to attend the Coffee with Carly event hosted by the Seven guide. This title of the event was called Calming the storm and finding your light.
The event took place at an adorable bakery in stone harbor New Jersey with delicious doughnuts and adorable goodie bags. There were only about 20 people attending which made it a great way to make friends and connections.
First we got to meet with Kristin and learn about the positive effects of meditation. I’ll be the first to admit I was a bit skeptical about this part, as the first thing I think of when someone says meditation is sitting in an uncomfortable position on a yoga mat for hours, and to me it’s just not realistic. Kristin seemed to agree. She is a strong supporter of meditation, and actually taught us how to reasonably incorporate just 5-10 minutes a day that doesn’t require any tools other than counted breathing and closed eyes.
My biggest takeaway from this portion was the pulse method of meditation ( his might not be the actually name but it’s what I’m calling it). I often struggle with anxiety, especially around situations that I can’t control. Kristin showed us how she deals with these heightened anxious emotions by putting her fingers to her wrist, finding her pulse, closing her eyes and focusing on just that beat. It seems crazy, but it truly works by bringing you back to yourself.
Next it was time to meet Carly! I was brimming with excitement to finally meet a person I had been following for so long and been inspired by so many times. Seeing Carly in person wasn’t like meeting a celebrity where it kind of takes off the rose colored glasses and the facade is shattered. Everyone said they felt like they knew Carly and that this wasn’t the first time they had seen her in person. This just shows how authentic and personal she is on her Instagram. There is nothing fake or phony about her and listening to her talk definitely solidified my opinion of that.
It was so interesting hearing that someone who has 200k followers and lives fully off their blog still struggles with the same issues as me someone with only 2k followers. Carly shared that she struggles with comparison, not only in traveling but also appearances and has this need to feel like she has to keep up.
To me the reason I love following Carly is because of her transparency and realness and of course the cute outfits are a plus.
It was so lovely meeting someone who inspires you daily and realizing that they are genuinely what they portray themselves as.
I had the best time attending and cannot thank Carly Enough for her endless inspo. My main takeaway? Stay true to yourself no matter what!
