The dreaded day is finally here… Game of Thrones is officially over. I wont talk about how the show ended because truthfully, I’m still recovering.
Here are my top 5 show picks to watch now that Game of Thrones is over:
The Last Kingdom
This is a Netflix series that has all of the same fighting, violence and scheming as Game of Thrones set in a viking story line. Netflix has really been stepping up their production game and this show is a true testament to that. I’m also a huge fan of the main character… for obvious reasons.
True Blood
This show is WAY different than the theme of Game of Thrones; however, it still has an extremely unique storyline along with an adult rating. The completely unpredictable plot will definitely keep you interested. Disclaimer: there are vampire’s involved. Watch with an open mind…
Versailles
I love time period piece shows. Versailles is a huge hit to me because it pulls pieces of history, yet definitely takes more dramatic turns. It’s similar to Game of Thrones in that it’s packed with corrupt rulers, frivolous spending, deceit, and affairs. The first two seasons are on Netflix, and I am not so patiently awaiting the third.
The Borgias
Another time period piece show, predictable at this point I know. This show is insane. The level of unexpected twists, turns and absolutely terrible people is off the charts. I was constantly in shock on what I was watching. Fair warning that the show does end abruptly on a huge cliff hanger. It was canceled after its third season. If you wanted to watch a show that ends with resolution this is NOT the one.
The Originals
This is my final pick, because I’m sure some of you are rolling your eyes at this one. It seems so strange to put a show like The Originals ( a spinoff from the Vampire Diaries) in the same comparison group as Game of Thrones. I was a huge Vampire Diaries fan growing up, so naturally I was a bandwagon fan of the Originals. This show is absolutely much more adult. I promise the intensity of the show and the characters will not disappoint!
