Bendel is officially 3, and of course we had to celebrate! What better way than a puppy party?
Initially for Bendel’s birthday I was going to write an adorable post all about things she’s been up to. That all changed after I posted about her “pawty”. I received so many messages and questions that I thought it would be hilarious to write a post on how to plan your dogs Birthday party.
Before you keep reading its important to know that the first requirement of planning an awesome puppy party is that you must be a crazy dog parent. After you’ve checked that box off your list, the planning begins.
Finding the location will be the most difficult part. We have an awesome dog lake near us that you can rent by the hour. This is always our go to for parties. I did some research (this sounds insane, I know) and most daycare facilities will allow you to rent a “room” or play area for a few hours as well to host your party!
After you’ve found your location you of course have to invite all your pups friends! We are so lucky to have an awesome group of pups to play with. We met most of Bendel’s friends through instagram!
Next? The cake! A party is not complete without a cake. We went with pupcakes this year for ease of serving. You can pick up a dog friendly cake at your local bakery; however, I recommend making it yourself as it is SO easy and much cheaper. You’ll be shocked to know that you can most likely make the cake with things you already have in your house – remember they’re dogs, they’re easily impressed.
My go-to recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/8 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 peanut butter
- 1/2 cup applesauce
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 1 egg
Frosting:
- 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
- 1/4 cup of peanut butter.
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- In a large bowl, combine flour and baking soda.
- In a separate bowl mix together: coconut oil, peanut butter, applesauce, pumpkin puree, 1 egg.
- Mix all ingredients together and fill into desired pan – (we did cupcakes – the recipe makes about 10).
- Bake for approximately 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
- After cooling add frosting. – Make sure to do a puppy taste test.
The final touch to make your puppy party complete is goodie bags! I always remember as a kid the best part of a birthday party was going through the goodie bag on the way home. I tried to make the goodie bags more fun for the parents! I included a dog bow, a personalized decal, treats, and of course poop bags.
Lastly, remember to have fun, and of course take lots of photos!
