More than half of the time I find myself saying “Thank you! I actually got it from the thrift store!” A very large portion of my wardrobe has come from thrift stores, consignment shops, or my cousins closet. I know that I have a very “preppy” style so it is easier to find classic pieces at the thrift store since these trends rarely change.
When I tell people I found something at the thrift store they immediately ask which one. The truth of thrifting is that you never know if you will find anything at all when you go and then other times you’ll luck out and find a brand new Lilly dress with the tags still on it. My advice to thrift/consignment store shopping is to always go with patience, an open mind, and the acceptance that you may not find anything at all.
My latest find was at a garage sale where I found two vintage wicker woven bags for only $1! These types of bags seem to be the most popular and expensive summer trend. I had been searching high and low for an affordable one and was so excited when I found two completely different styles in one day.
Finding the balance between buying items at the thrift store and buying full price items is the sole reason I am able to splurge on those more expensive must have pieces. I love high quality name brand pieces. Purchasing these pieces gently used at the thrift also gives me the freedom to have a more extensive wardrobe and the ability to constantly replenish my closet.
