I cannot believe it has been a year since I graduated! Preparing for graduation is extremely stressful. Not only do you have to find the perfect dress, you have to take graduation photos, send invites/announcements, and actually focus on graduating and finishing out your last semester.
I’ve seen tons of awesome posts recently about graduation dresses, and I wanted to mix mine up and talk about tips for the big day, and taking graduation photos.
You will be spending the entire day in your outfit so comfort is an absolute must. I chose a simple gold and white shift from Lilly Pulitzer and some gold heels. Although my dress was extremely comfortable, the shoes were a huge mistake comfort wise, and I spent the day miserable. There is such a thing as comfortable heels, but apparently I did not get the memo that day.
Another important must is to make sure you eat. I was so caught up in getting ready and getting there on time that I forgot to eat. For anyone who knows me knows that forgetting to eat can lead to me reaching catastrophic hangry levels. My friend Kelly and I actually had to swing into Chick fil a on the way to graduation to avoid a full out disaster. It was clearly very glamorous.
My last piece of advice is to not try and take your graduation photos on graduation day. The longer you wait to take photos the more crowded the popular spots on campus will become making it more difficult. I took my photos weeks in advance before the end of semester stress had the chance to age me ten years. This was such a great decision because it allowed me to actually enjoy taking the photos and gave me plenty of time to send my announcements out. Kelly was the real MVP and took individual photos of me one day, group photos of me and my friends another, and then family photos on actual graduation.
I was so happy with how my photos came out. I think the main reason was because we did not try to force poses or take things too seriously. We had so much fun trying different ideas and laughing at the ones that did not come out quite as glamorous as we had hoped.
Overall my graduation was so much fun, and I really got to enjoy the experience. I am so glad I have these photos to remember the day!
We had to keep stopping while taking this photo because we were laughing so hard at how absolutely terrible I am at throwing things. At one point my cap actually ended up in the statue.
My mom had just had ACL surgery and had to be in the wheel chair the entire day. We decided to make the best of the situation and this ended up being one of my favorite photos.
In hind sight we definitely should have taken this photo last. We were immediately covered in champagne.
