If you’re reading this because you’re looking for a post that is going to tell you exactly what skincare to buy, you’ve come to the wrong place. I’ve learned the hard way that 1. Skin care is SO important, and 2. There is no “one size fits all” answer.
Everyone has sensitive skin. The only difference is the type of sensitivity. All-natural products can sometimes be too harsh for some, and products that are not completely natural break others out. After a year and a half of trying every “sensitive skin” option out there, and countless recommendations from friends, I FINALLY found a skin routine that works for me (read that post here), and I have learned a lot along the way and wanted to share my tips below!
Commit to a sample:
The best way to see if a particular brand or product works for you is by trying it for a week. A company that truly backs their product will give you enough samples for at least that. Be religious about using the product, and not to panic at the first sight of a pimple. If you’re anything like I was a year ago, your skin has probably never been treated kindly and it may take some adjusting. Now, if you’re face feels like its burning off or you turn red… maybe not the product for you.
Dip a toe into the skincare routine, don’t cannonball in:
Back to my previous point about shocking your system, if you’ve truly been neglecting your skin for years, my advice is to introduce products slowly. It’s also the best way to see which product works and which ones don’t. If all of the sudden you start using a new cleanser, toner, moisturizer and eye cream there is no way to see what’s actually working.
Only buy from places that back their product:
I’ve spent a lot of money on trying different products. Sometimes a sample doesn’t uncover long term reactions your skin may have. Thankfully almost all products I’ve bought I was able to return to the buyer if they truly did not work.
Invest in yourself:
Skincare can be expensive. It’s the sad truth and I think that’s why I put off buying it for so long because I did not want the initial expense. Once you find the product you like it really does go a long way. For example, if you like a $60 skin cream that you know works for you… go for it! It’ll most likely last you months!
Your Skin is constantly changing:
Eventually your skin will change, and products that have worked in the past may not work for you now. 20 year old skin is different from 25 year old skin! Make sure to adapt!
That’s all of the advice I have! Read my full skincare routine here and good luck to you!
